Listeners judgements, perceptual ratings of speech before and after intense treatment:

  Comprehensive (CSP) (Forne-Wästlund 2001) Non-avoidance therapy (Helltoft-Nilsén&Ramberg, 1998)
Percentage with improved speech after treatment 89% (8 av 9) 46% (6 of 13)
Of these: mild stuttering after treatment 11% (1 av 9) 8 % (1 of 13)
Of these: very mild stuttering after treatment. 44% (4 av 9) 0 % (none)
Of these: no stuttering after treatment. 33% (3 av 9) 0 % (none)

Assessment of problems related to stuttering before and after intense treatment:

  Comprehensive (CSP) (Forne-Wästlund 2001) Non-avoidance therapy (Helltoft-Nilsén & Ramberg, 1998)
Percentage with reduced stuttering problems after treatment. 78 % (7 of 9)  39 % (5 of 13)

The assessments of the gravity of the problems related to stuttering for the Non-Avoidance Treatment are based on Helltoft-Nilsén & Ramberg’s results from 1999. These assessments are conducted by the therapists themselves according to the so-called VAS scale, (Visuell Analogisk Skala) and the gravity of the stuttering problems and the communication for all participating persons are assessed before and after the treatment. The results of the CSP Treatment, however, are based on the individual participant’s own assessment on the basis of the Perception of Stuttering Inventory (PSI). (see: Forne-Wästlund 2001).
